CAPE NATIVES AROUSED
STIRRED UP BY GENERAL ELECTION POLICE AVERT VIOLENCE (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. 11 a.m. CAPETOWN, Friday. The election campaign is arousing the natives of the Cape. Today settlers at the Eastern Cape were alarmed at motor-lorries filled with natives which arrived in response to a challenge that the farmers would not allow the meeting. Tho residents telegraphed to the Prime Minister, General Hertzog, who replied that he could not interfere. A large force of police prevented violence. Communistic speeches were delivered. General Smuts, in a birthday speech at St. Anderton, pleaxled for Christianlike treatment for the natives.
