Pauline Frederick, who toured New Zealand with “Spring Cleaning,” is playing “The Scarlet Bady” in Chicago at the Cort Theatre. * * * A new baritone for Williamson musical comedies is Michael Cole, who arrived in Australia recently. In England he has appeared in “Rose Marie” and in “Show Boat.” Said Lord Dewar recently in Lorn don, in the course of a characteristically witty address: “If Adam came on earth again, the only thing he would recognise would be the old jokes.” * * * Strella Wilson, here last with “The Vagabond King,” has left for London to try her luck on the stage there. She has played opera, comic opera and musical comedy on the Australian stage. Marie Burke, in her very best form, captivated the hearts of one and all with her exquisite rendering of “I Kiss Your Hand, Madame,” “Some Day, Somewhere,” and “Way Down South In Heaven,” among other numbers, says a London exchange of her return to vaudeville In England. * * * A net profit of £85,002 is shown in the accounts of J. C. Williamson, Limited, for the year ended June 30, 1928, compared with £79,684 for the previous year, and £62,935 for the year ended June 30, 1926. A preference dividend of 8 per cent, absorbs £12,000 and ordinary dividend of 10 per cent. £37,500.
