OLD TIMER WINS
SPRINTING ON DOMAIN CLOSE STEEPLECHASE The Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club held the fourth meeting of its series of winter competitions at the Outer Domain this afternoon, there being a fair assembly of competitors. The veteran runner Alt' Clarke carried off the 75 yards sprint, and the main event on the programme, the steeplechase, was won by Clapham. Shot-putting and discus-throwing events completed the programme. 75 YARDS SPRINT Results are as follow: (Handicap). First Heat R. G. Kirkwood (7£yds) 1 J. W. Savidan (Byds) 2 N. S. Beauchamp ( —yds) 3 Six started. Won by inches, both ways. Time, 8 l-ss. Second Heat R. Willey (syds) 1 A. Clarke (14£yds) * J. W. Turnbull (7£yds) 3 Six starters. Won by a foot, in 8 l-ss. Final A. Clarke (14£yds) .. 1 J. W. Savidan (Byds) * J. W. Turnbull (7Jyds) * Six started. Won by six inches. Time, Bs. ‘Dead heat. STEEPLECHASE (About 1£ miles). L. V. Clapham 1 H. McNiel 2 C. R. Wilson 3 McNiel was home first after a stirring finish, but the race was awarded to Clapham, as McNiel had “bored him out.’ Savidan had fastest time, 7m 9s. Kells ran well, finishing in 7m 16 l-ss.
