NEW YORK POLICE TO WATCF COLLEAGUES (United Service) NEW YORK, Thursday. The New York Commissioner of Police, Mr. J. Whalen, has appointed 100 special policemen, whose duty it is to protect their brother officers from liquor. Many a tightly-hooked coat collar now circles a policeman's parched throat, for the city's 32,00<« “speakeasies” (resorts where liquor can be obtained )are “no man’s land” to the force. Mr. Whalen has ordered a special supervisor in each precinct to keep an eye on policemen who are nor Prohibitionists.
