SOCIAL NEWS

Social Buds

Two Pretty Debutantes Make Their Bow AT EMPIRE BALL Stepping delicately in their charming gowns of gossamer weave two dainty little debutantes made their formal entry into the social world at the Empire Ball last evening. THEY were the Misses Edna Kissling. the younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Kissling, of Glanville Terrace. Parnell, and Keitha Mair. the elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Mair, of Kitchener Road, Takapuna. Ivory georgette was chosen for Miss ICissling’s frock, its charm expressed in simple fashion, with a softly-falling skirt of two flares. Pink and silver was prettily combined in a trail of flowers, caught at one shoulder of the slender bodice and the same colours appeared in the posy carried by the debutante. Miss Keitha Mair’s delightful little gown was fashioned of georgette in the palest nuance of lemon —deeper than old ivory—nearly as deep as the petal of a primrose. A silver girdle defined the waistline, where the closely-fitting plain corsage was attached to the long full skirt. A cluster of silver and lemon flowers was worn at the shoulder and found their gay tones repeated in Miss Mair’s piquant little posy. Between dances the little debutante countered the chill of the evening by wearing an attractive lemon and silver wrap.

NEW LYNN CHOIR ST. THOMAS’S CHURCH At a social event last evening, Mrs. Horridge was presented with an enlarged photograph of the St. Thomas’s Choir, where for the past 14 years she has been an active member. Members of the choir, including Mr. G. Gilliam, choirmaster, and numerous friends were present. A speech was delivered by the Rev. H. Jecks. Musical items were given by Mrs. E. McKenzie. Mrs. Winsome Shaw and Mr. T. Culpitt.
