Navy Day Soccer

Dunedin v. H.M.S. Diomede Which Will Be Champion Ship ? THERE will be a real Naval invasion of Blandford Park tomorrow to decide the champion ship of the Fleet, and the Jolly Jack Tars of the Silent Service will be in possession. The massed bands of the cruisers will add inspiration and a great naval battle is assured. Philomel will meet Rangers in a senior B game as a preliminary match. On the outside grounds Trams meet Shore at Devonport. Thistle and Y.M. play at Cornwall Park, Ponsonby journeys to Onehunga, and Celtic plays Belmont.

Owing to the Diomede being in the Old Country for refitting last winter, the championship of the New Zealand Navy was not played, and tomorrow will be the first battle for the Reason banner for two seasons. The Dunedin team lias been seen in action against the Auckland reps and Tramways, the champion senior club. It is a very fine combination with some brilliant exponents of the code *both in the defence and attack. A few* of the Diomede team were in action in the New Zealand v. Imperial navies game, and Clarke, at centre forward, gave a great display. The holders of the championship are fielding a team of players who only arrived last spring - , so most of them are making their first appearance here. The senior B championship match should provide a lively curtain-raiser as the Philomel and Rangers have both been defeated only once this season, and both are well in the running for full senior tank. An added attraction will be the massed bands of the Dunedin and Diomede, which will provide a special programme of music under the direction of Bandmaster F. Kirby, R.N., while his Excellency the Governor-General is expected to attend, accompanied by the officers of the New Zealand division of the Fleet. Apart from the naval battle the championship series will continue as usual, and most interest in the senior A matches will be centred on Devonport, where Shore may put a spoke in the wheels of the all-conquering Trams.
