LAST REMITS

CONFERENCE FINISHING OFF GENERAL SUBJECTS The last stage of the consideration of general remits was reached this afternoon by the Auckland Provincial Farmers’ Conference. The Waiultu branch submitted this remit: "That in the event of mortgagee . foreclosing, that mortgagor' have the privilege on a valuation of redeeming 75 per cent, value of such improvements. Any moneys borrowed by mortgagor during' his tenancy not to exceed 50 per cent, value of such improvements, the valuation to be made by Government valuator for the purpose of such loan.” It was deferred to the executive for recasting. A Waikato suggestion, that primary producers should be allowed to place evidence before the Arbitration Court during the hearing of any disputes having close bearing upon the primary industries, was carried. Waikato brought forward a remit saying, that the conference should consider that the basis of awards of the Arbitration Court should be !:»■ cost of living of' a single man plus dependents. The allowance to be paid from a fund to be derived from employers by payment per head on all employees who come under the awards. It was referred to the executive. That the Minister of Internal Affairs should be requested to empower Acclimatisation Societies with authority to give permission to destroy pupelto when damaging crops, was a remit from the Bay of Islands. Mr. J. Dawson said that pukekos did considerable damage to crops in the North. Protection was needed. The remit was carried. The Bay of Islands Sub-province asked that the conference should consider that a Dominion-wide Farmers’ Mutual Insurance scheme, covering all branches of Insurance, should he resolutely attempted by the Dominion executive and urges that the question should be brought before the Dominion Conference. Mr. A. A. Ross mentioned that a similar movement had been tried in the South, but th& associations did not amalgamate. The remit was carried. Waihi recommended that the conference should consider that the Government should make provision for cases where a wife has to earn - a living for herself and an invalid husband, in such a case as where a family is forced off a farm and into indigence through the husband receiving injury. The remit, was sent to the executive.
