WARNED OFF

MEN WHO STRAYED ON PRIVATE WHARF POLICE CHARGE FAILS Charges of being found on enclosed premises preferred against William Lawrence Bowler and George Reid at the Police Court this morning were dismissed. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., warned the men to be more careful in future. JJOWLER, a bushman, aged 39, and Reid, a fisherman, aged 42, pleaded not guilty to being found on the premises of Sanfords, Limited, at the City Market this morning. Constable Hanna said that he found the two men there in the small hours of the morning. Reid had said that he was looking for fish-heads, but Bowler could offer no excuse. The constable mentioned the requests he had received to keep a watchful eye on premises iu that part of the town. Mr. Munro, manager of Sanford’s depot, said that there was no great objection to the men being where they were found. It was quite usual for men to be there. Chief-Detective Hammond: And yet you would be the first to complain if anything went wrong. The Sub-Inspector: And you ask the police to watch the place. Reid explained that he was down on Sanford’s wharf waiting for a boat to come in. Neither man was aware that he was on private property and it was not enclosed. The magistrate warned the men to keep away from the wharf in future.
