Obituary

MR. E. R. BLOOMFIELD A well-known resident of Auckland, Mr. Ernest Read Bloomfield, died yesterday. He was a son of the late Mr. Thomas R. Bloomfield, and was born In Auckland. He received his education at Trinity Hall, Cambridge, where he took his LD.B degree. Mr. Bloomfield had travelled widely but most, of his life was spent in Auckland. He was a member of the Auckland and Northern Clubs and a member of the Auckland Racing Club, the Auckland Golf Club and the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, during his association with which he was, with his brothers, the late Mr. J. 311. R. Bloomfield, and Mr. H. R. Bloomfield, of St. Stephen’s Avenue, Parnell, part owner of the yacht Viking. The late Mr. Bloomfield saw active service in Prance during the Great War. He had extensive pastoral interests in Poverty Bay. • . Mr. Bloomfield is survived by his wife, who is at present in London, and one daughter, Mrs. Bernard French, who was recently married in England. MR. CASEMENT AICKIN Mr. Casement Aickin, of Grange Road. Mount Eden, who died yesterday, at the age of 80. was born in London, and arrived in New Zealand with his parents in the ship Mermaid, in 1859. He took up land at Avondale, where he engaged in farming for 20 years. He then entered business in Auckland, and was the founder of the firm of C. Aickin and Sons (Auckland). Ltd., general merchants, which celebrated its jubilee this year. He married Miss Elizabeth Garde, a daughter of Dr. Garde, one of the earliest settlers in Auckland, his wife, predeceasing him 39 years ago. Mr. Aickin is survived by four sons. Mr. Lelend Aickin. Mr. Hugh Aickin i and Mr. R. A. Aickin. who were in partnership with him. and Mr. Casement Aickin. the well-known surgeon, and three daughters, Mrs. M. Bamford, Mrs. R. P. Creagh and Mrs. W. McCaw. all of Auckland The late Mr. Aickin was an uncle of the Right Hon. J. G. Coates. Leader of the Opposition. MR. WILLIAM HAMILTON One of the oldest residents of Drury. Mr. William Hamilton, died on Monday at the age of S 4. Born in County Tyrone, Ulster. Ireland, Mr. Hamilton came to New Zealand his wife and family in 18S3. and eight years later commenced farming in the Drury district, where he had lived ever since. He retired some years ago, but continued to live on his property. Mrs. Hamilton died two years ago. Mr. Hamilton is survived by two sons. Mr. W. J. Hamilton and Mr. Henry Hamilton, both of Drury, and three daughters. Mrs. H. Hingley and Mrs. S. Keen, of Auckland, and Mrs. D, Young, of Drury.
