SCHOOL DENTAL WORK
NEED IN BACKBLOCKS The need for improved and extended service by dental clinics among schools in remote country districts was urged by Mr. R. Hoe at the Auckland Education Board’s meeting this morning. Mr. Hoe, who is a representative of the board’s north ward, made particular reference to the service given by Dr. J. Hagen, under departmental authority and under arrangement with school committees, between Helensville and Whangarei. Some years ago, Mr. Hoe said, Dr. Eagen had conducted a “caravan” system of visiting schools away from the main centres. It was found that his present system was having excellent results arid Mr. Hoe considered that it would be wise to advocate the extension of the plan throughout the Dominion. Mr. Hoe’s suggestion was added as a remit to be raised by the Auckland board’s representatives at the forthcoming conference of education boards in Wellington. The chairman, Mr. A. Burns, thought that there was much to commend Mr. Hoe’s proposal. The board received a letter from the Franklin Chamber of Commerce asking the board to consider a method to meet the claims of backblock children for dental treatment.
