CASE AGAINST FARMER SUPREME COURT ACTION Press Association INVERCARGILL, Today The Invercargill Supreme Court sessions opened today before Mr. Justice Smith, who congratulated the district on the fact that there were no cases for the Grand Jury. Wirimu Meinata, aged 21, who pleaded guilty, was sentenced to five years' probation for burglary and theft. The court is now hearing a slander case, in which the Southland Farmers’ Cash Supply Service claims £2,000 damages from Ronald Sim, farmer, for a statement made at the Farmers’ Union meeting reflecting on .plaintiff’s business methods. Argument is being advanced on the question of privilege.
