SALESMAN’S LAPSE

HIS CHEQUE WAS RETURNED BACK TO GAOL “As a result of this your licence will be cancelled and you will have to serve the full term of your sentence,” said Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., at the Police Court this morning when Leo Samuel Carl Minifie appeared before him for sentence. Minifie, a salesman aged 61, was charged with obtaining .£6 from Arthur Helier Sutton by means of a cheque that was dishonoured on presentment, and yesterday Mr. Noble entered a plea of guilty on his behalf. Chief-Detective Hammond then said that Minifie was out of licence, as he had been sentenced to two years’ reformative detention in September, 1927. Counsel handed up a long letter written by accused to the magistrate, and a remand was made until this morning. "I will not increase your sentence,” added the magistrate, and sentenced Minifie to one month’s imprisonment, to be concurrent with the present term.
