Auckland Planes Two planes, one piloted by Major Keith Caldw-ell with the Auckland Aero Club’s engineer, Lieutenant Copley as passenger, and the other piloted by Captain W. Bloomfield with Mr. L. Swan, secretary of the club, as passenger, flew from Auckland to take ] part in the Hawke's Bay pageant, j Owing to the bad weather conditions, however, these two machines did not arrive at Hastings until late in the afternoon on Saturday and consequently were too late to compete in many of the events. The Patron Saint Known through the Empire as the Patron Saint of Aviation, Sir Charles Wakefield has again made a splendid use of his cheque book. To help the British Aero Club organise this year’s Schneider Cup, he donated £5,000. An Idea of the magnitude of the organisation is furnished by the fact that the prospective attendance is estimated at. over a million; that ocean liners will be specially brought to the course to act as grandstands: and that British Aero Club expenses are set down at between £15,000 and £20,000.
