The original offer was to hand over the money to buy radium for the treatment 0 f patients in Poverty Bay. The medical superintendent of the Cook Hospital Dr. Hall, had conferred several with air. He had found that radluni treatment could not be given in the Cook Hospital as it would involve ob. taining the services of a radiologist at £I.OOO a year. Therefore, Mr. Clara decided to place his donation of £s.otxi at the disposal of the whole of the Du. minion for the purchase of radium supplies. The chairman added he had mentioned the matter to the Minister of Health, the Hon. A. J. Stallworthy, who had stated the £ 5.000 would carry a Government subsidy of pound for pound.
