BIG MAN NOW

Spencer Stratton in England Spencer Stratton, a New Zealander, who is recognised in Australia as th? famous wizard of speed on the various dirt speedway tracks on that side, is now a man of influence in the sport in England, hiving been appointed a managing director of the Provincial Dirt Tracks (Sheffield), Ltd. Stratton, who visited New Zealand some time ago, announced that he was going to introduce dirt track racing in Auckland, and after gaining considerable publicity returned to Australia, having done no more than merely outlining grand schemes for the introduction of the sport. He now sends word from England that he intends to visit Australia with a team of English riders next November.

In a letter to a friend in Sydney, he says: “I am bringing out to Australia a team of six champion English broadsiders. I want to organise matches in every city—Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane—with England meeting Australia. It is the international touch that should appeal to the Austral ians. “The boys I am bringing out are the “goods” all right. They are: Daredevil Beckett (British track record holder), Roger Frogley (recognised English champion), ‘Skid' Skinner (holder of five records), and Arthur Jervis, a consistent and popular broadside^. “Naturally, I am optimistic regarding importing talent to Australia, as I know only too well how Australians like to see champions—regardless of what sport it is—in action.”
