MARK NICHOLLS FAVOURS 3—3—2 SCRUM FORMATION
T N an attempt to influence New Zealand Rugby away from the 2-3-2 scrum, Mark Nicholls has induced his club in Wellington to pack a 3-3-2 scrum, on the South African model, during the coming season. Nicholls has returned to New Zealand convinced that the old formation must be abandoned if New Zealand is to obtain possession of the ball from set scrums in international matches to come. After the 1924 tour, in which New Zealand was beaten for the ball, he dropped the 2-3-2 scrum for Pet one Club, of which he is the captain, and reverted to it only because the club's hookers were too clever for most of the teams tney met. and because Petone then owned a very useful wing - forward. Nicholls will be playing Rugby for two more seasons before retiring.
