Twelve Machines For Air Pageant

HAWKE’S BAY MOTH ARRIVES ENTRIES FOR AERIAL DERBY It has now been definitely announced that a dozen planes will take part in the Auckland Aero Club’s pageant to be staged at Ihumatao airdrome on Saturday. Five machines to take part in the gathering are already at Ihumatao, while this morning Captain T. (“Tiny”) White arrived in the Hawke’s Bay Aero Club’s Moth, with Mr. Field, oflicial representative of that club, as passenger. The flight from Hastings was made in 2 hhurs 40 minutes. It has been found necessary to eliminate the parachute and trapeze events from Saturday’s programme. The main reason is that the programme threatened to be too long. Another reason is that it has been thought fitting to keep strictly to the definition of an air pageant. In place of these events, a toy balloon chasing competition will be held. The event consists of a pursuit after balloons, and points are awarded for bursting. The aerial Derby will be run in two heats in the morning, and the final between four machines will be held at 3 p.m. The 12-miles race will consist of two laps around a triangular course. This has been selected by Major G. A. C. Cowper, and excellent landmarks have been found for the turning points. Following are some of the entries for the aerial Derby.—First heat: Captain M. Buckley (Moth), scr.: Captain J. Seabrook .(Moth), 25sec; Major K. Caldwell (Moth), 25sec; Captain T. White (Moth). 30sec; Lieutenant I. Keith (Blackburn Bluebird). 60sec. Second heat: Captain M. C. McGregor (Moth), scr.; Mr. F. D. Mill (Moth), 20sec; Captain Chandler (Moth), 20 sec; Captain E. Dickson (Moth), 25 sec; Captain D. Harkness (Moth), 30 sec; Captain K. Hall: (Avro-Avian), 30 sec. i t
