NOTED CANADIAN DEAD
SIR CLIFFORD SIFTON (''Attstrolicu and N.Z. Press Association) (United Service) Reed. 9.5 a.m. NEW YORK, Wed. Sir Clifford Sifton, the Canadian newspaper publisher, died from heart disease on Wednesday, aged 67. He had long been prominent in politics and business. He was a son of John W. Sifton, formerly Speaker of the Manitoba Assembly. Pie was called to the Manitoba Bar in ISB2. and was elected to the Manitoba Legislature in ISSB, being Attorney-General and Minister of Education. He retired from the Manitoba Government, and entered Sir Wilfred Laurier’s Administration as Minister of the. Interior and Superintendent-General of Indian Affairs, but he resigned in 1905 on account of a dispute with Sir Wilfred Lauriev. Sir Clifford was agent of the British Government before the Alaska Boundary Tribunal, 1903; was one of the representatives of Canada at the International Conference on Conservation of Resources, Washington, 1909; 'hairman of the Commission for Conservation of Natural Resources, 1909.
