UNDER STARRY SKIES “GLOOM CHASERS’ ” DANCE j ORIGINAL DECORATIONS The Takapuna Boating Club - opened its winter dance season in the clubhouse, Bavswater, last evening: with u “gloom chasers’ ” dance. The clubhouse has been entirely redecorated for the new season and many beautiful and original effects have been obtained. In the centre of the dance hall is a massive chandelier from which ! lines of beaded fringe were strung to j the corners of the hall. Tiny Chinese lanterns of blue and gold shed a soft light over the dancers and ferns and potted plants banked the stage from which the B.itz Orchestra dispensed lively dance music. During the “twilight” dance the twinkling lights of a Southern Cross appeared on the stage and a golden crescent moon and several starry lights hung low over the heads of the dancers. Streamers of old gold and blue, the club colours. decorated the supper room and bowls of glorious autumncoloured dahlias were arranged on the tables. Committee members present were: Mrs. Lidgard, delphinium blue taffeta corsage, with frilled tulle skirt. Mrs. J. McKay, bouffant frock of apricot, taffeta and georgette. PRESENTING DEBUTANTES CORRECT PROCEDURE Advice has been received from Government House regarding the correct procedure for bringing to notice | Sirls whose parents desire them to be ; presented to their Excellencies as debutantes. ! The correct procedure is for parents ! or nearest relation to write to the aide- ; de-camp in waiting stating that the daughter is niaking her debut that year and asking for the honour of presentation to their Excellencies. The names of the parents and other grown-up sons and daughters should previously have been inscribed in the visitors’ book at Government House, but the name of the debutante daughter should not be so inscribed until after the function at which she has been presented.
