Troup, to-day cabled £6OO to the In- : ternational Relief Fund Commission | in Shanghai as the first instalment on ; the money raised in the Dominion for j the relief of starving millions in the ! provinces of Honan, Shensi and ' Kansu. The latest official news received from China by the Mayor is as fol- : lows: i “China greatly appreciates New Zea- | land's co-operation in the relief of sufferers. Conditions are the worst lor 50 years. Millions are eating | leaves, bark, grass and seeds. Thoul sands are dying. No crop is possible f in most areas until September. Funds ; are very inadequate. International ; effort is required to prevent a disasj trous loss of life.”
