“MY WIFE’S REFINED”

CHAT WITH RUPERT HAZELL “I represent fun —my wife is refined.” That is Rupert Hazell’s amusing method of describing himself and his wife, who is his stage partner. The English comedian and his wife arrived by the Ulimaroa yesterday from Sydney with the other members of the company who will support Sir Harry Lauder. Before he left England Mr. Hazell collaborated with Edgar Wallace, writer of mystery stories, in two productions which were staged at the Hippodrome and the Alhambra. He has written numerous light entertainments, many of which have been staged in London, principally at the leading vaudeville and musical comedy houses. Ho appeared at the command performance of vaudeville artists at the Coliseum in 1923 and was the first performer who made the King laugh. Tiki Carpenter, solo dancer, fresh from successful engagements in London and Paris, is proud of his Christian name. “It is my real one,” he said, “and proven I am a New Zealander. Mr. Carpenter began professional dancing after the war with the New Zealand Diggers. Other members of the company are Miss Beryl Wentworth and the Fredo Bros. The company will appear at His Majesty's Theatre this evening.
