WORK IN MOUNT EDEN
MAYOR MAKES FINAL REPORT The Miiyor of Mount Eden, Mr. E. H. Potter, who presided over the final meeting of the present Borough Council on Monday, presented a brief report of the year’s work. “The past year,” he said, “has heen marked by much solid work. * Drainage has been carried on in very difficult country. The expenditure has heen heavy, being nearly £300,000 to date, but the improvements to the value of property and the advantage to the health of the residents is sufficient justification for all that has been spent.
“The street improvement scheme has been steadily carried on and many streets have been paved with bitumen, which will very greatly reduce the costs of maintenance in the future and in the meantime reduce the dust nuisance to a minimum.” The Mayor also spoke in detail of the work that had been done for the parks and recreation areas in the borough. Nicholson Park, work on which had been begun three years ago, was almost completed, and was one of the finest in Auckland. He thanked Cr. Woolley, in particular, for the excellent work he had done for the park. The Mayor mentioned that two of the present members, Crs. D. C. Fraser and Morris, were not standing for reelection. Cr. Fraser was standing for a seat on the City Council and Cr. Morris, who was going to settle at Takapuna, had accepted an invitation to stand for the Takapuna Council. He thanked them and the rest of the council, and members of the borough staff, for their help and cooperation, and hoped that as many as were standing for re-election would get returned without difficulty. On behalf of the council Mr. G. L. Taylor thanked Mr. Potter and Mr. Fraser and Mr. Morris also spoke.
