WORK IN MOUNT EDEN

MAYOR MAKES FINAL REPORT The Mayor of "Mount Eden, Mr. E. i H. Potter, who presided over the final \ meeting of the present Borough Council last evening, presented a brief | report of the year’s work. “The past year,” he said, “has been marked by much solid work. Drainage has been carried on in very difficult country. The expenditure has been heavy, being nearly £300.000 to date, but the improvements to the ! -value of property and the advantage j to the health of the residents is suffij cient justification for all that has been j spent. | “The street improvement scheme | has been steadily carried on and | many streets have been paved with \ bitumen, which will very greatly reduce the costs of maintenance in the ! future and in the meantime reduce the | dust nuisance to a minimum.” The Mayor also spoke in detail of j the work that had been done for the | parks and recreation areas in the j borough. Nicholson Park, work on j which had been begun three years I ago, was almost completed, and was one of the finest in Auckland. He j thanked Cr. Woolley, in particular, for j | the excellent work he had done for the ! park. | The Mayor mentioned that two of J j the present members, Crs. D. C. Fraser I ! and Morris, were not standing for reelection. Cr. Fraser was standing i for a seat on the City Council and Cr. Morris, who was going to settle at Takapuna, had accepted an invitation to stand for the Takapuna Council. He thanked them and the rest of the council, and members of the borough staff, for their help and cooperation, and hoped that as many as were standing for re-election would get returned without, difficulty. On behalf of the council Mr. G. L. Taylor thanked Mr. Potter and Mr. Fraser and Mr. Morris also spoke.
