Winter Show Will be Run Jointly

DISPUTE SETTLED

MANUFACTURERS AND A. AND P.

A settlement has been reached between the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association and the Manufacturers' Association concerning control of the winter show. The agreement provides for joint management of the show. This is announced by Mr. J. T. F. Mitchell, president of the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association. Commenting on the diversity of | opinion in regard to the control of j the Winter Exhibition, Mr. J. T. F. Mitchell considered that it had its origin in 1924. when the Dominion Industrial Exhibition was held. Prior to that date (in 1922) the A. and P. Association controlled the exhibition itself. In 1923 the man ufac furers were granted a third of the profits, but in 1924. by reason of the special nature of the exhibition, the manufacturers .1 were granted half the profits, and their j secretary was appointed manager. In the following year the Man ufac- ; turers* Association claimed a continuation of these concessions, and although j these were granted for the years 1925, j 1926 and 1927, it was felt by the executive of the A. and P. Association that the time had arrived for the position : being reviewed. It considered that the • i presidency should remain with the j J parent body and that the system of ] management should be altered. It also i asked for a larger share in the profits. ; PROFITS DIVIDED The agreement now entered into provides for the A. and P. Association’s ’j president holding that position for the , j present year, after which the president j -will be nominated by the joint com- { mittee. The management will be a j joint one, and profits will be equally , divided as before, except that the j manufacturers will make a contribution from their own profits of £IOO to the A. and P. Association to reimburse the latter for extra work involved. Neither side got all that it asked for, but the position has been clarified, and every effort will now be made by the Joint Committee to make the 1929 Exhibition the best that has been held in Auckland. Confirming the agreement arrived at between the two organisations concerned. Mr. G. Finn, president of the Manufacturers’ Association, said he felt sure that things would now run more smoothly.
