AMBASSADOR’S FUNERAL
BODY REACHES NEW YORK BROUGHT IN FRENCH CRUISER (Australian and N.Z. Press Association J NEW YORK, Saturday. A flag-draped coffin bearing the remains of the late United States Ambassador to France, Mr. M. T. Herrick, was brought ashore to-day from the French cruiser Tourville. It was placed on the cassion of a field-piece shrouded in black and purple and drawn by six horses. There followed an hour’s journey through silent packed streets, where the people and officials paid their last respects to the dead. The coffin was then placed on a train bound for Cleveland, where the funeral will take place. The United States warships Marblehead and Cincinnati followed the Tourville into the inner harbour.Fort Jay fired a salute of 21 guns. All the flags on the city skyline were flown at half-mast, as were those of the French cruiser.
