MOTOR PLATES READY
NEW ISSUE ON MONDAY EXTRA FOR INSURANCE The usual early start with the issuing of new motor licence plates is to be made this year, and they will be available at the Wellesley Street Post Office from Monday onwards. The plates this year are dark blue with white letters, and must be fixed to cars by June 1. The early issue gives owners an opportunity of avoiding the last-minute rush. In addition to the usual re-registra-tion fee this year an extra £1 will have to be paid under the compulsory insurance legislation. Car-owners will have the option of nominating any one of 42 companies to take over his third-party risks. Numbers running from 1 to 27,600 have been allocated to the Auckland postal district, which extends from Mercer to the North Cape. In the Thames area the numbers will run from 27,601 to 32,100, and the Hamilton group will extend from 32,101 to 43,700. The numbers increase running south, the Wellington allocation being 83,001 to 100,900. The remaining 57,100 will be absorbed in the South Island, the highest numbers being distributed in Invercargill.
