PLAZA AND TIVOLI

LAST DAYS OF “RED HOT SPEED”

The excellently-varied programme now at tlie Plaza and Tivoli Theatres is headed by Reginald Denny’s latestpicture. “Red Hot Speed.” The story commences when a prominent newspaper editor, Long, outraged by speedy traffic, launches ar. anti-speed campaign. His daughter. Buddy, is arrested for speeding, and is \ paroled in the custody of Assistant District Attorney Darrow (Reginald Denny), under the name of Mary Jones. Darrow visits Long’s home and discovers who the paroled girl really is. Judge O’Brien, who sentenced Mary Jones, drops in. Darrow and Buddy go out to avoid him. Buddy’s angry boy-friend, George, is . tagged for reckless driving as he ; chases them. Buddy reports to Darrow at his apartment next night. George spitefully calls her father to come over to meet “Mary Jones —the speeder.” Upon his arrival, Buddy escapes out the window and Darrow has one of the servants pose as “Mary Jones." Long decides the girl is crazy and tells the judge to have the girl in court for a sanitary hearing. Darrow tries to explain things next day to the judge, but the judge agrees Buddy is crazy. Long sees the servant coming to court to pay a parking fine and demands her arrest. Darrow tells Buddy of his love and arranges for both girls to escape, but Long sees Darrow hiding Byddy in an office. They tell him they are eloping and he gives them his blessing, never learning that his daughter was the real speeder. “The Woman From Moscow,” the second attraction, stars the beautiful, distinguished and dynamic actress, Polu Negri, in the role of a woman torn between her word of honour and a mad infatuation. The new programme to be shown on Thursday will include “Beggars of Life,” a fascinating drama of tramps and tramp life, starirng Wallace Beery, Richard Arlen and Louise Brooks, also “Adoration,” the powerful drama starring Billie Dove. RIALTO AND REGENT, EPSOM “BEYOND THE SIERRAS” For the first time in his career, Tim . McCoy assumes a thrilling mystery role in “Beyond the Sierras,” a drama of old California, teeming with the • romance of the gold fever days, now at the Rialto and Regent (Epsom) Theatres. This, therefore, is a further departure from the usual form of outdoor romance. In the flowing robes and gay mask

of a Spanish cavalier, McCoy makes a striking figure, and the dash required of him in this role emphasises his ability to re-create the colourful figures of pioneer days with absorbing realism. Never has his talent been more admirably demonstrated.

Sylvia Beecher, as leading lady, provides new interest for the cast of a McCoy feature. “Millionaires,” the second feature, is a delightful comedy starring Louise Fazenda.
