DECLARED “BLACK”
ALL TIMBER ON WHARVES A MELBOURNE OUTRAGE (United P.A. —By Telegraph — Copyright) Reed. 11 a-m. MELBOURNE, To-day. The central strike committee of the timber workers, believing that many of the strikers have become so restless and dissatisfied with present conditions that a stampede back to work is likely, have decided upon an extension of the disput by declaring "black” all the timber on the wharves. Reed. 9.15 a.m. MELBOURNE, To-day. Thieves during the week-end entered the home at North Melbourne of Mr. 3?. Sullivan, a cartage contractor for a number of timber firms, and stole money and jewellery to the value of oyer £SOO.
They then set fire to the house, which was practically destroyed. Simultaneously, fires occurred in timber stacks at the railway yards in the same neighbourhood. A nightwatchman fired three shots at a loiterer, who escaped.
