TRAINING AT EPSOM

AUCKLAND HORSES SHOW IMPROVED FORM | SATURDAY MORNING TASKS A thick coating of dust made the dirt track at Alexandra Park on Saturday anything but fast; nevertheless the footing was good and several trainers took advantage of the fine morning to give their charges a good spin. The most important work-outs are given below. Colt Shapes Well Rolfe Audubon (A. J. Julian) and j Koniniwood (J. Nicholson) elected to j go ten furlongs, the colt conceding his rival a couple of lengths advantage. Both paced freely to the eight-furlong peg, where Rolfe Audubon asserted himself, and he finished in advance of the black mare, who was, however, not ; driven right out. “•'Tartar’s” hand- ! some three-year-old gave a good dis- I play. Nice Exhibition Great Change (A. Cook) traversed two miles in faultless fashion, and !

without going against the watch gave a pleasing exhibition. He trotted in his boldest style and track watchers j were impressed with the little square- ; gaiter’s display. Smart Piece of Work Les Laver hopped Nelson Tasker off at the two-mile peg. and the Hen- j derson pacer was going nicely when ! | the first half was left behind. Here | The Shrew and Native Prince joined 1 issue, but the latter tangled and was ! soon in the rear. At the mile disc ! Claude Fuirman. on Nelson McCor- ! mack, went away smartly in the van, and set a merry clip, opening up a good gap. Nelson Tasker and The Shrew closed on the saddle merchant entering the straight, but he hung on to finish on terms with Bill Head’s mare, with Nelson Tasker, who had just enough, a couple of lengths away. : It was a good work out on the part of i the three pacers. Not Out for Time W. Head sent Raima over a circuit at a solid clip, and J. Lardner picked i him up at the 10-furlong post with ! Halgana, the mare leading the trotter i for six furlongs, where he moved fori ward. Raima was in the lead a fur- ! long from the post, but was not pushed | and Halgana came again to have a j little the better of it at the post. | Neither was out to put up anything : approaching fast time. Well Matched Rivals Dillon Muon (.J. McKendrick) and The Abbey (W. Clifton) were again associated in a work-out over the Cup distance. The latter began best and acted as pacemaker, getting to the end of the first mile in nice style. The next half was brisk. Dillon Huon ' being on the heels of his opponent. ! Three furlongs from home it was an even break, and from the entrance to the straight the pair were under a good drive. Dillon Huon, finishing strongly, was slightly in front at the box. It was a sound effort on the part of both pacers, with the honours in favour of J. McKendrick's charge. \ n Fine Buckle | Medusa was geared up and A. Julian swung away from the 12-furlong post at a handy pace, and with three furi longs covered Jim Cockle joined in with a galloping pacemaker. The I mare paced freely and infused a lot

;of dash into the final quarter, and finished up a strong work-out in api proved style. Like her half-brother. ! Rolf© Audubon, the mare as in great ! heart. Promising Matden Dad's Hope (W. Clifton) went from j the two-xnile peg by himself, but when j four furlongs had been traversed Billy Carbine tG. Robertson) stepped away in front of the chestnut, and approach - ! ing the 10-furlong disc J. Me Kendrick joined in with an unamed de Mack | lntaglis three-year-old. A little? fur* ’ ther on Billy Carbine loft his feet, losing a lot of ground. The maiden stepped nicely with Dad’s Hope till i reaching the mile peg. where he was eased up. and Billy Carbine, trotting ‘ solidly, was making up leeway. TV. | Clifton’s pacer finished well to wind up a good effort. The half-brother !of Free Advice showed good promise. ANSWER TO CORRESPONDENT Timepiece.—Bingen pacing, won the Dominion Handicap, two miles, in 4.41 3-5. at the ’Waikato Trotting j Club's meeting held at Alexandra. ! Park in March, 1927. When he finished third to Commander Bingen j and Bright Light at Christmas m i the trotters’ race, Bingen Starr re- ! gistered 4.46 2-5. Taking his pacing time he has won in better than the 2.26 presented in the Introductory Trot on Saturday.
