TERRITORIAL’S FUNERAL
VOLLEY OVER GRAVE FULL MILITARY HONOURS The funeral of Mr. Guy Lobley, the young Territorial who was killed while swimming at Narrow Neck Camp on Thursday, was held with full military honours at Waikumete Cemetery yesterday. From All Saints' Church, Ponsonby Road, where a short service was conducted by the. Rev. W. W. Averill, the coffin was borne on a gun carriage to the corner of Khyber Pass. Before vt marched the men of D Company, Ist Battalion, Auckland Regiment, with arms reversed. The battalion band, playing the “Dead March’ ’in “Saul,” lead the way. At the corner of Khyber Pass the pall-bearers, members of the dead lad's own company, removed the coffin from the gun carriage to the hearse, and the funeral cortege resumed its journey to Waikumete. At the graveside the burial service was read by Mr. Averill, and a firing party from C Company fired the volley which is a final salute. A bugler sounded the “Bast Post” and “Reveille.”
In addition to the members of Mr. Lobley’s own company, D Company, there were , present at the funerai Lieutenant-Colonel T. H. Dawson commanding the battalion, Major N. l! Macky, second-in-command, and Captain J. G. C. Wales, adjutant. Representatives of the Royal Marines and the New Zealand Field Engineers were also present.
