SIR BOYD DAWKINS LONDON, Wednesday. The death is announced of Sir William Boyd Dawkins, anthropologist and geologist; aged 92. Sir William Boyd Dawkins was educated at Rossall School and Oxford. He joined the Geological Survey in 1862, and in 1869 became curator of Manchester Museum, a post lie retained until 1890. He was appointed professor of palaeontology and geology in Owens College (now Manchester University) in 1874. He was chosen in 1882 by the Channel Tunnel Committee to nmke a special survey of the French and English coasts, and he also reported on a scheme for a tunnel under the Humber. His chief distinction was in anthropology, by reason of his researches into the Jives of t.hc prehistoric cave-dweDa He travelled in North America and in Australia in 1874 and in 1890 He was a Fellow of the Royal Society.

SIR REGINALD TALBOT LONDON, Wednesday. The death has occurred of MajorGeneral Sir Reginald Talbot, a former Governor of Victoria; aged 88. Major-General Sir Reginald Arthur James Talbot was the third son of the 18th Earl of Shrewsbury. He was born in 1841, and educated at Harrow. He was Conservative member of the House of Commons for Stafford, 1869-74. He served in the Zulu War, 1879, the Nile Campaign, 1884, and was Military Attache at Paris, 1889-95. He commanded the Army of Occupation in Egypt, 18991903. He was Governor of Victoria* 1904-08. when he retired.

SIR JOHN BRUNNER LONDON, Wednesday. The death has occurred of Sir John Brunner. The late Sir John Fowler Brunner was born in 1885, the eldest son of Sir John Brunner, Bt., and was educated at Cheltenham and Trinity Hall, Cambridge He was Liberal AT.P. for various divisions from 1906 to 1924, his last .-eat being that of Southport. He was a director of Brunner, Mond and Company, and of Imperial Chemical Industries until October 19, 1927, when he resigned on the ground of ill-health. The heir to the baronetcy is Lieutenant V. J Morgan Brunner, who is married to a daughter of the late Mr. H. B. Irving, actor.
