SYDNEY STAFF REDUCED
COMMISSIONERS’ REPORT DEFICIT ABOUT £50,000 SYDNEY, Thursday. The Sydney Civic Commissioners supplanted the old City Council submitted annual report this evening. This says the council’s staff, which originally' numbered 2,742, had been reduced to 2,000 by September. This retrenchment necessitated the Payment of retiring and compassionate allowances aggregating £27,000. The full effect of the reduction in the staff Jvould not be felt until next year. The Commissioners estimate that nere will be a deficit of about £50,000 the year’s operations. Neaify improvements, street widening, park and slum eradication. The only unwelcome note in the report is the prediction that the charges ior e lectricity are likely to be increased.
