Market on ’Change

BUSINESS for the -«-eek opened on ’Change this morning with the markets for all the better-class securities in good tone. No movement worthy of special note took place.

The banking group is quiet, all shares meeting with a steady demand at late rates. Nationals of Australasia were dealt with outside the call ro Vi this morning at £lB 19s, compared with the price at the date of the last recorded sale ("made during the second week of December) of £lB 16s 6d. New Zealands continue active at 625, although the market had a slightly easier tone this morning, buyers dropping to 61s 9d. • In the insurance section, buyers of A.P.A.’s moved up to 6s 9d again, tc# rind sellers 3d easier at 9s 6d. In connection with this scrip it is interesting to note that it had a middle price on the Sydney 'Change on Wednesday last of 6s 6d —sellers, 6s 9d; buyers, 6s 3d. New Zealands maintain their increased .strength of last week, further sales being made at 47s 3d. A further slight weakening in South British shares took place this morning, sellers at 645, after a sale at that figure, finding support at 63s 9d.

Shares in soundly-administered Australian industrial concerns maintain a very firm market. Sellers of Burns, Philp have withdrawn to leave buyers offering 465. Kempthorne Prosser’s New Zealand Drugs were dealt with this morning outside the call room at 745, an increase of Is 6d on the price at the time of the last recorded sale made during the week ended December 4.
