Yachtsman’s Day
SATURDAY’S PROGRAMME DEVONPORT CLUB RACES Saturday was an ideal day for yachtsmen, and the “tailor-made” conditions spelled success for the programme of the Devonport Club, which was carried out to schedule and without a. hitch. The only unexpected happening was the grounding of the keel-yacht Waione in the first race. She touched on a shoal aboLit 2QO yards from the starting-line, and a 20-minutes delay nullified her chances. The races were six in number, and each was started from a point opposite the Victoria Wharf. At 2.30 o’clock, when the evnts began, a steady westerly bL-eeze gave promise of holding until the evening. It did so: and the yachts had a brisk run to their destinations. The keelers set a course for Rocky Bo.y, via the outside of Rangitoto, and three harbour races were held for the smaller classes. The course for these was within the usual limits. The results were:— A and B Classes —lorangi (lim), 5.22.40; Moana (10m), 5.34.30; Windward (ISm), 5.44.10. Also competed: Prize (9in), 5.36.30; Kotiri (15m), 5.42.20.
