STEWARDS’ AXE

WHERE IT FELL JOCKEY’S THREE SUSPENSIONS The year 1928 was remarkable for the number of well-known jockeys who fell foul of the Australian Jockey Club stewards in the metropolitan area, says a Sydney writer. Among those who earned terms of suspension were, two crack horsemen, M. McCarten and J. Pike. ln McCarten’s case the suspension of one month was a very severe penalty, as he was forced to forego the mount on Limerick in several important weight-for-age events, and on Jocelyn, which won the A.JrC. Metropolitan. McCarten would have had several other important mounts at the A.J.C. spring meeting, and the suspension may have cost him £I,OOO. The light-weight, C. Findlay, had a unique experience, which will cause him always to remember 1928. He was suspended on three separate occasions. The A.R.C. also had a busy time, the ringing-in of the brown mare Supremacy as Malster Jolly being one of the features of the year. Among the A.J.C. jockeys to earn suspensions and disqualifications during last year were: JB. C. Conaghan, 2 years: M. J. McCarten, 1 month; G. Carter, 2 years; H. Eorrington, 2 years; R. J. Marsd.en, 2 years; J. Troy, 3 months; E. T. Ross;, 12 months; C: Findlay, 2 months, 1 month, and 2 months; N. Percival, 1 month; J. Pike, 2 months; C. Pike, 2 months; F. McGovern, 3 months; J. Crowley,. 3 months.
