I GINGER LAYER CAKE $ N a slightig-warnicd basin mix jyj| T half cup treacle, one cup butter, A £ one cup brown sugar and beat p -up well; in another basin beat yj three eggs well and add half cup milk, then add to the other mix * tare and beat all well together; fj add 24 cups flour mixed with one J teaspoon each of ground ginger, A cinnamon , spice, and, lastly, add \ r? half teaspoon of bicarbonate of j soda dissolved in a little milk and A three teaspoons baking powder. a; Divide into three, put in sandwich * j tins and bake in a modeyte oven jjtt from 20 to 30 minutes. When cold put together with icing made os f* follows: Boil half cup milk, two || cups brown sugar and one table * ; spoon butter together for five M minutes, remove from fire and beat y till thick. Spread between cakes H and on top with a knife dipped in cold water occasionally end jjj decorate top of cake with pieces A of preserved ginger.
