PAPATOETOE FIRE BRIGADE
OFFICIAL INSPECTION Captain T. J. Watts, advisory superintendent of the United Fire Brigades* Association, paid his first official visit to the Papatoetoe Fire Brigade last evening, and inspected the brigade. At the conclusion of the inspection the superintendent commented very : avourably on the worths of the brigade, and the efficient manner in which the members handled the gear. The Papatoetoe brigade was the baby of the association, and he was very pleased with the progress made since its formation. In reviewing the report of Superintendent Bradley, of the work done by the brigade, Mr. Watts spoke very favourably of the satisfactory results attained, and said it was all the more creditable, in view of the absence of a water supply. HAMILTON TOPICS The annual business meeting of the Xew Zealand Young Women's Presbyterian Bible Class Union was held yesterday, Mrs. Mackay presiding. A successful year was indicated in the report, which showed all sections of the union’s activities to be flourishing. Mrs. Mackay said during the year the membership had increased to 6,209, an addition of 395. There were now 481 classes on the roll. Next year the semijubilee of the organisation would be celebrated, and it was hoped a. special effort would be made to mark the occasion. The departure for the 30 days’ holiday camp at Port Waikato, arranged by the Hamilton Children’s Welfare League, was made yesterday. The weather was fine, and of the 190 children who made application to take part in the camp only three failed to appear. The league had arranged a site for the camp, and members of the committee had prepared the camp beforehand. A large quantity of stores had been dispatched to the site. The Roose Shipping Company provided the transport by placing the river steamer Manuwai at the disposal of the committee.
