That evidence as to the number of drinks taken by defendant charged with being intoxicated in charge of a motor-car is unreliable, is the opinion of Mr. J. H. Salmond, S.M. The prosecution cannot contradict the statement, whatever it may be. and the defendant takes full advantage of his opportunity. “The only reliable evidence the Court has of his condition,” said Mr. Salmond in the Wellington Police Court to-day, “is that given by medical men and other reliable witnesses.” Bath Stolen A porcelain bath was stolen from a vacant house in Stewart Street, Mount Eden, recently. It was the only thing in the house which could have been taken. Mrs. F. M. Molony, the owner of the house, had left it some time ago. Her brother, Mr. S. G. Dorrington, called at the house a few days ago, and found that the bath was missing. Entrance had been gained by breaking a window and the thieves had left by the back door, which was open. The fittings of the gas-heater were also taken.
