TO SETTLE OWN TARIFF
CHINA GIVEN THE RIGHT NEW TREATY WITH BRITAIN (Australian and N.Z. Press AssociationJ Reed. 12.51 p.m. LONDON, Thursday. The Anglo-Chinese Treaty, which was signed at Nanking on December 20, was released by the Foreign Office. It reveals the abrogation of all existing treaties limiting the right of China to settle her national Customs tariff or impose tonnage dues in accordance with her own desires.
An annex provides a similar renunciation on behalf of the Dominions, including Australia and New Zealand, of any such rights. China, in return, giants Britain and the Dominions most-favoured-nation treatment.
