Thieves Raid Nurses' Rooms at Otahuhu

ST. MARY’S HOME ROBBED ABOUT £2O CASH STOLEN While the nurses of St. Mary’* home were entertaining the inmates of the institution last evening thieves ransacked their quarters. Every room had been raided and between £l6 and £2O had been taken. Money had been collected by the thieves from the rooms of the nurses. Evidently the thieves were disturbed. It is thought that they contemplated breaking open the safe in the matron’s room. This contained over £l5O in cash and cheques, donations to the institution over the Christmas holidays. Last evening the staff of the Home was entertaining the inmates in a room-at the rear of the institution. 9f returning to their rooms the nurses found everything in disorder. Clothes had been thrown about and drawers turned out. A search disclosed that thieves had searched the rooms thoroughly and decamped with all the cash they could tind. No clothes or goods of any kind were taken. Money was the only object of the thieves. St. Mary’s Home is situated on the Great South Road, at Otahuhu. It is well back from the road and is fronted by a heavy growth of shrubs and trees which would shelter the intruders. Entrance to the building had been gained through the front windows.
