PLAZA AND TIVOLI

“THE BARKER” TO-MORROW This evening will see the final presentation at the Plaza and Tivoli Theatres of the current programme, which includes “Waterfront,” a story of romance on the docks of San Francisco starring Dorothy Mackaill and Jack Mulhall, also “The Wright Idea,” the breezy Johnnie Hines comedy of the troubles of an inventor. An entirely new programme will be presented to-morrow' evening, headed by “The Barker,” a story of side-show carnival life. How a man tasting the dregs of life and concerned in a profession that partakes of many of the lower elements of existence may place all his hope and confidence in his son, is exemplified in “The Barker,” with Milton Sills and Dorothy Mackaill co-starred. Sills plays the title role, a “barker,” or loud-voiced salesman writh a cheap carnival outfit. He has planned a college career for his son (Douglas Fairbanks, junr.), w'ith the idea of his becoming a lawyer, but the boy joins the show, marries Lou, a girl in the company who set out to vamp him. Miss Mackaill plays this role. The result is confusion and despair, but finally it develops that the young couple are sincerely in love and there is still hope for the future. Betty Compson, Sylvia Ashton and others are in the supporting cast. The second feature to-morrow will be “Finnegan’s Ball,” the story of tw r o Irish families’ feud with a big cast. From trunk juggler to plutocrat—that’s a meteoric rise calculated to catch the most w'andering eye. Victor McLaglen has been fittingly assigned to the title role of “The Baggage Smasher,” Fox Films’ production, which shows very vividly the effect of quickly acquired riches on a simple, rugged soul. A great variety of background, with a new and arresting glimpse of the palpitating, hectic life of the metropolis, are sure to arouse keen public interest.
