GASCONY OR REREMOANA?
Latest advices from the South indicate that it is possible Gascony will not be started in the Manawatu sprint to-day, the object being to reserve him for the Palmerston North Stakes tomorrow. This is a classic event over six furlongs, run at weight-for-age, with penalties and allowances. Reremoana will carry 9.1 and Gascony 9.0, both having escaped a penalty, so that it is going to be a stirring struggle between this pair, who dominate the situation. Gascony is expected in the South to beat the older horse, but if Reremoana is anywhere near his best —he may lack a race—the four-year-old will not have matters all his own way.
