RETIRING CLERGYMAN
FAREWELL AT BELMONT At St. Alichacl's and All Angels' Parish Hall, Belmont, last evening a social was held in honour of Canon E. J. AlcFarland. who is retiring from Ihe parish. The Rev. and Mrs. W. Piggott. who have recently left the Bay of Islands district in order to take over St. Alichael’s parish, were welcomed. Earlier in the evening a confirmation service was held in the church and was conducted by Archbishop Averill. Various presentations were made to Canon AlcFarland. On behalf of the Sunday School Air. F. C. Day presented him with a silver pencil, and a substantial cheque on behalf of the parishioners, was presented by’ Air. \V. Sharpe, the vicar’s warden. Air. Reid welcomed the Rev. and Airs, piggott to the new parish and spoke appreciatively of the Avork done by Canon McFarland during the past two years. Bouquets of carnations and roses were presented to Mrs. McFarland and Airs. Piggott by Valerie Wyatt and Ruth Day on behalf of the Sunday School. A musical programme followed: items being given by Mrs. Blackwell, Aliss G. Piggott and Air. Dronsfield.
