Workmen Gather Hay in Heart of City
PLEASANT PASTORALE A scythe, a pitch fork. hay. and two workmen—all these contributed j toward a pleasant pastorale. And the rural scene was in the heart of Auckland, too. It was in the Civic Square. This morning, the two workmen were busy gathering hay for a private contractor. Country clashed with city. It teas hard to reconcile the sight of a scythe swishing through tall grass with noisy city traffic. An interested knot of people watched the workmen. One thought was uppermost in their minds "So this is Civic Square .” When a horse dragged the hag away, one corner of the square. j robbed of a prolific growth of grass, I looked much neater.
