FIRE-BRIGADE STRIKE
SERVE OR GET OUT BOARD ISSUES ULTIMATUM (From Our Own Correspondent) WAIHI, Thursday. Members of the Waihi Fire Board met yesterday to consider the position of the “striking” firemen, who refuse to carry out their duties as a protest against the appointment of Mr. S. Shergold as deputy-superintendent of the brigade. All but two of the brigadesmen were present, and Fireman Walsh acted as spokesman. After a lengthy discussion, the board decided to stand by its decision in appointing Mr. Shergold, and requested the firemen either to serve under him or to hand in their uniforms and equipment. Telephones at the residences of those members of the brigade who refuse to serve under the deputy will be cut off.
