SUNSHINE FOR CHILDREN

“PADDY’S MARKET” HELD MAYORESS OPENS FAIR An extensive school building with stalls in each class-room, more stalls out of doors sheltered by shady trees. . . . The Community Sunshine Association held a Paddy’s Market at the old Nelson Street School this afternoon. The opening ceremony was performed by the Mayoress, Mrs. A. D. Campbell, who hoped that the efforts of the association toward providing for children would be successful. Mrs. X. E. Ferner, organiser of the “sunshine for children” movement. also spoke. She said that the association wus progressing and new developments would take place in the New Year. Assisting Mrs. Ferner in the conduct ol the market was Mrs. Alfred Eady. Mrs. Parker; Miss Margaret Parker; cakes, Mrs ; T uJler, Mrs. Featherston, Mrs. \\ hite, Mrs. Large, Mrs. Kay-Stratton; tea-rooms, Mrs. St. Clair Ingles. Miss McDonnell; flowers. Mrs. Pankluirst, Mrs. Gee Mrs. Ross; produce, Mr. and Mrs. Jackson; apron -tall. Mrs. S H Brown; sweets, Mrs. Cooper. Mrs.' < laud e White: books, Mrs. Fletcher, . l orrest: tlie cabbage patch, Mrs. O brien. Many assistants were present. Mrs. Johnstone was in charge of the Christmas tree, and Mrs. Eaton was in charge of the baby show. Entertainments and competitions were held. The proceeds from the market are to go toward the association. At the Nelson Street School there is space covering 8.000 squ ire feet and nearly an acre of land to bo devoted to the association’s purposes. Most attention at present is being paid to the progress of a community dub for children, but. in the new year, the sunshine school for invalid and convalescent children will be furthered, children will be recommended for ti eatment by school doctors.
