DISTURBED BY GUNFIRE
DEVONPORT DOGS UPSET The canine population of Devonport yesterday arrived at the conclusion that the marine suburb was no place for law-abiding dogs. They were to be found shivering under houses and shelters. A woman standing on the front steps of her house was almost knocked over by a dog which dashed madly in from the street, and, ignoring all protest, rushed into the house. The commotion was caused by the six-inch gun practice at North Head. Each discharge of the gun brought new terror to the dogs. One of the few horses doing cart duty in the borough also resented the noise. Harnessed to a milk-delivery cart, it had been left in Burgess Road, but the deafening detonation of the gun caused it to bolt. A sadly damaged outfit resulted. As usual a number of householders in th* vicinity of North Head have to complain of minor damage.
