TO-MORROW’S YACHTING

R.N.Z.Y.S. RACES EVENTS ON THE HARBOUR and second-class keel yachts and 18-foot patiki yachts will race over harbour courses to-morrow afternoon under the control of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron. All events will start and finish off the King’s Wharf. The event for A class will begin at 2.30, the B class race at 2.45 and the M boats at 3 o’clock. Handicaps for the keel yachts will be declared to-morrow. Entries are as follow: A Class—lorangi, Thelma, Ariki, Moana, Victory, Nga-Toa anrl Prize. B Class —Windward, Wairiki, Kotiri and Waione. M Class—Manene, Ttfaroro, Matarere, Mawhiti, Maratea. all scratch.

VICTORIA CRUISING CLUB

FIRST HARBOUR RACES Harbour races for yachts, launches and outboards will be held to-morrow afternoon by the Victoria Cruising Club. All events will start and finish off the clubhouse. The officials in charge of the racing will be:—Starter, Mr. O. Johnson; judge, Mr. E. Griffiths; timekeepers, Messrs. A. Perkin arid H. Crowd. Entries and handicaps are as follow: General Handicap for Classes H, L and N. To start at 2.40 p.m.—Starlight, scr; Starlock, scr; Celox, lm; Spray, ljm; Valeria, 3m; Why Not, 6m; Mistletoe, 6m; Wairere, 6m; Mowai, 7m; If Not, 10m; Competitors must tow dinghies. General Handicap of 18ft and under Classes. To start at 2.50 p.m.—Drone, scr; Surprise, lm; Wild Wave, 2m; Secret, 4m; Mistral, 4m; Leverett, 4m; Scud, 5Jm; Sea Sleigh, 6m; Tui, 8m; Val, 8m; Rona, 91m; Almira, 11m: Rangi, 11m; Mizpah, 11 Jm; Sea Rover, 12m; Caprice, 13m; Maybelle, 18m. Launches. To start at 2.30 p.m. Course: Start from flagship off boathouse and markboat moored west, thence through eastern entrance of boat harbour, thence round pile beacon off Chelsea, thence round outer pile beacon at Bayswater, finishing between flagship and markboat. Marks to be kept on starboard. Entries: Eros, Irene, Kathryn R. and Pierrette. The handicaps will be declared to-day. Post entries will be received for the outboards. The course for yachts is as follows: From starting-line between the flagship off the boathouse and mark-boat moored west, then through the eastern entrance of the boat harbour, thence round mark in Shoal Bay, thence round Rona buoy, thence through the eastern entrance of the boat harbour to starting line; once round. All marks must be passed on port hand.

CORNWELL CUP TRIALS

FIRST RACE AT TAKAPUNA To decide the Auckland crew to defend the Cornwell Cup, for which this season’s contest is to be held at Lyttelton in February, the Takapuna Boating Club will hold the first of a series of elimination races over its course in Shoal Bay to-morrow afternoon. Following are the entries and handicaps:—Ace, Lelphine, scr.; Suzette, Kitty, 2min: Tio, Bmin; Trevic, 9min: Vindictive, 10m.

SANDERS CUP TRIALS

AUCKLAND'S CHALLENGER The Sanders Cup selection committee last evening chose the Jellicoe boats Val, Ilona and Avalon to take part in the trial races for selection of Auckland's challenger for the forthcoming races to be held at Akaroa. The first race will be held to-mor-row week, starting off King’s Wharf at 2 p?m. -Should conditions be favourable a second race will be held later in the day. The committee consists of Messrs. 11. J. C. George, G. Mobberley and H. Kirkham.

WHANGAREI NOT COMPETING

(Special to THE SUN) WHANGAREI, Thursday. On account of the difficulties of finance the Whangarei Cruising Club has decided against sending a crew to compete in the Cornwell Cup contest. About £25 was required and although the boys volunteered to pay part of the expenses it was considered impracticable to send a crew.
