America, the land of many inventions, has evolved a new boxing ring, which is really an electrically-operated lift. When the fight is ready to start, the two principals and the referee step on to the lift in the basement underneath the stage, and the lift goes up to the level of the stage, where it constitutes the ring until the fight is over. It has been tried out in San Francisco, and is reported to have been quite successful. It would certainly provide a quick “get- away” for unpopular fighters.
