“INTO WORLD COURT BY THE BACK DOOR”
KELLOGG PACT ALREADY OPPOSED IN UNITED STATES (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Received 9.7 a.m. WASHINGTON, Wednesday. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee postponed consideration of the multilateral anti-war pact until Friday, when Mr. Kellogg, Secretary of State, and author of the Pact, will be asked to explain it. The United Press Association correspondent says he is reliably informed that opposition to the Pact appeared in the committee. It was initiated by Senator James A. Reed (Missouri) who j forced the calling of Mr. Kellogg on 1 Friday. Senator Reed Opposition to the Pact was based on the ground that the treaty “would lead the United States into the world court by the back door.” It is believed further hearings will be sought after Mr. Kellogg testifies, thus delaying Senator W. E. Borah’s plan to make an immediate and favourable report to the Senate. Senator Borah is chairman of the committee.
